CSS-Based Design

Creating Web sites with “cascading style sheets,” for the ultimate control of format, distinct from content (I also have experience with WordPress blogs and the Drupal “content management system”).

BarryTalk.com

BarryTalk.com

For the political talk shows on radio, TV, and the Internet hosted by Barry Gordon, the longest-serving president of the Screen Actors Guild, and produced by yours truly. Web site features many hours of indexed audio archives I created, for streaming or downloading shows, plus links to other sites with many additional hours of audio and video archives. Barry’s photo for his bio page — and for the e-mail header and previous Web site header — was taken and edited by yours truly.

NewsRapArchives.com

NewsRap Archives.com

For select programs, with nationally known guests, of Barry Gordon’s talk show on Pasadena Community Access Corporation Channel 56. Web site features many hours of indexed Flash video archives I created. Note that the shows were originally recorded on DVDs or digital video tape; if the latter, the studio would transfer the show to a DVD. I “ripped” each show from the DVD and converted it to a Flash video file, which I embedded in a Web page, thus allowing the show to be “streamed” (actually, “progressively downloaded”) by over 98% of the world’s computers online.

IleneProctor.net

IlenePRoctor.net

For one of the top public relations firms on the West Coast, particularly for progressive authors and producers. Featured is a brief video clip I edited from C-SPAN praising Ilene.

EclatEntertainment.com

Eclat Entertainment   .com

For a multi-service music management company, featuring music players; a mouseover logo that pronounces the key word (in French) of the company name; and an introductory video shot, directed, and edited by yours truly.

“Doug Drenkow is both knowledgeable and creative. He listens intently to his client’s needs and brings them to life on the World Wide Web. He is expeditious and patient and works well with all levels of Web design experience.”

— Elizabeth Mathias, Creative Director,

Éclat Entertainment

Leadership Pasadena Web Site

Leadership Pasadena.org

For business and civic leaders of Pasadena, California. As designer, I re-designed the tables-based site with CSS; improved the graphics, as with a Flash slideshow; and included PHP forms as well as links to their Facebook Page, PayPal donation pages, and branded merchandise. As webmaster, I've updated announcements, archives, schedules, applications, etc.

Your work “is going to help us get grants, and ... [communicate] LP’s value to the community.”

— Patricia Hurley, Leadership Pasadena

Win-Win Workplace Solutions Exchange

Win-Win Workplace Solutions Exchange (WordPress Blog)

Win-Win Workplace Solutions is a highly regarded “boutique change management and organizational consulting firm.” Making the most of the “Custom CSS” upgrade, I redesigned the new, feature-rich “Twenty Ten” theme (template) in WordPress.com, to be consistent (in colors, fonts, and overall style) with the main Win-Win Web site (I also made sure that every page of the blog was linked to every page of the Web site, and vice versa). Because I couldn’t change the underlying HTML structure (only the overlying style sheet), I was unable to import the Flash movie from the main site; instead, I created an animated GIF of the growing tree, for the header of each page in the blog.

“Doug is intelligent, perceptive, creative, easy to work with, responsive, and supportive. ... Doug sees obstacles as opportunities for learning new solutions.”

— Gail Schaper-Gordon,
Win-Win Workplace Solutions

Doug's Drupal Test Blog

Doug’s Drupal Test Site

A working sample blog etc. demonstrating my familiarity with extending and theming the Drupal content management system, as used by WhiteHouse.gov and SonyMusic.com.

JMDuron.com

JMDuron.com

For one of the top mobile truck repair services in Southern California (owned and operated since 1976 by my wife’s beloved Uncle Joe, until his passing, in 2009)
