ENVIRONMENTS

Gnetum and its relatives live in Tropical and Subtropical areas.  Ephedra is the only genus found in the U.S., in the desert Southwest.

OVERALL STRUCTURE

Ephedra is a rather small, upright branching shrub with almost no leaves and small, "naked" seeds.
