Biology

ENVIRONMENTS

Discovered only in the last century, coelocanths have been caught in the Indian Ocean between East Africa and Madagascar.

DESCRIPTION

Coelocoanths are lobe-finned fish, like lungfish, and are living representatives of an extinct line of fishes that led to the amphibians.  These fishes characteristically had a very bony skeleton, which would prove useful for supporting a body out of the water, and small pointed teeth, which are useful for catching prey underwater or above.
